SUMMARY:Civil War Reenactment Weekend
DESCRIPTION:CIVIL WAR WEEKEND\n\nFourth Annual Civil War Weekend at Fort Tribute\n\n\n\nThe St. Lawrence Power and Equipment Museum will be hosting reenactments from the Fort Tribute Civil War. This is the opportunity to learn what it was like during the Civil War through things such as visiting the camps\, field hospitals\, barracks\, and more. They also welcome you to listen to stories and music of the era as well as witness the reenactment of a battle and hear the cannons roar. \n\n\n\nHighlights of the event include\, visiting Union and Confederate camps\, historical demonstrations\, such as period cooking (common soldier's meal)\, and 1860s women's fashion. New this year a period play performed by Derek Maxfield as Gen. U.S. Grant and Tracy Ford as Gen. W. T. Sherman.\n\n\n\nThere will also be music\; book lectures\, plus demonstrations of artillery firing and a Children's Muster\, which illustrates how members in a military unit are formally gathered\, especially for inspection.\n\n\n\nLive battle reenactments are held on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The culture and lessons of reenactments help us understand the sights\, smells\, and sounds of history. Balladeer Linda Russell will entertain the "civilians" and soldiers with "The New York Volunteer: Songs and Stories of the Civil War." Russell accompanies herself on hammered and mountain dulcimers\, guitar and penny whistle.\n\n\n\nAbout the Fort\n\nA historical stockade fort built on the Museum property as a living tribute to those brave St. Lawrence County residents who mustered in and fought courageously in the American Civil War\, 1861-1865. Located near the fort's main entrance is a memorial to the Medal of Honor recipients of St. Lawrence County.
