Ariza Fabregas from Hiscock Legal Aid Society in Syracuse will discuss the history of U.S. immigration law and relevant changes over the years that have impacted current laws.\n\n\n\nAfter the presentation\, Juan will be available in person from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM for legal consultation regarding issues such as adjustment of status\, naturalization & citizenship\, specific immigrant juvenile status\, family-based immigration\, deportation & removal proceedings\, travel documents\, work authorization\, and more. Ariza Fabregas:\n\nJuan graduated from Law School at Universidad Libre de Barranquilla\, Colombia. He earned his Master of Law from Syracuse University College of Law. He is currently working at the Hiscock Legal Aid Society immigration department as a Law Associate for the North Country region.\n\n\n\nPrior to joining Hiscock\, he worked in-house for Corporations and has experience working in property damage and bodily injury cases. During high school\, he worked with other nonprofit organizations\, bringing support to the community and immigrants in Albuquerque\, NM.  \n\n\n\nAbout the Hiscock Legal Aid Society:\n\nHiscock Legal Aid Society was founded in 1949 to provide free legal assistance to low income residents of Onondaga County. Funds were provided by the Syracuse Foundation\, Inc. from a bequest of the Hon. Frank H. Hiscock\, Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals from 1916 to 1926.\n\n\n\nIn the beginning\, they emphasized providing civil legal assistance to those in need and family\, housing and unemployment matters continue to represent the most numerous cases in their Civil Program. In 1965\, the Society contracted with the Onondaga County Bar Association to administer the first Assigned Counsel Program and established an in-office Appeals Program to handle appeals from criminal convictions.\n\n\n\nFrom 1974 until 2004 they provided complete criminal defense services to low income persons accused in non-felony cases in Syracuse City Court. In 2004\, through a contract with Onondaga County\, they began to provide complete legal representation to adults in Family Court cases\, as well as parole revocation and extradition defense.
