DESCRIPTION:St. Lawrence University Writers Series presents Jason Koo\n\n\n\nBorn in New York City and raised in Cleveland\, Jason Koo is a second generation Korean American poet\, educator\, editor and nonprofit director. He is the author of three collections of poetry: More Than Mere Light\, America's Favorite Poem and Man on Extremely Small Island\, winner of the De Novo Poetry Prize and the Asian American Writers' Workshop Members' Choice Award for the best Asian American book of 2009. His work has been published or is forthcoming in the American Scholar\, Best American Poetry\, Missouri Review\, Poetry Northwest\, Village Voice and Yale Review\, and he been a National Endowment for the Arts\, Vermont Studio Center and New York State Writers Institute fellow. He earned his BA in English from Yale\, his MFA from the University of Houston\, and his PhD in creative writing from the University of Missouri Columbia. He is an associate professor of English at Quinnipiac University\, where he has twice been recognized as a semifinalist for the Center for Excellence in Teaching Award. He is the founder and executive director of Brooklyn Poets and creator of the Bridge\, the world's premier poetry network connecting poets and mentors. Koo was named one of the "100 Most Influential People in Brooklyn Culture" by Brooklyn Magazine. This reading is supported in part by the Sandra Nelson Memorial Poetry Fund.\n\n\n\nFor over 50 years the Writers Series program at St. Lawrence University has welcomed all varieties of authors including Pulitzer Prize winners.
