SUMMARY:Two Hundred Years of Progressive Faith= Exhibit Opening Reception (UU Church Bicentennial)
DESCRIPTION:Two Hundred Years of Progressive Faith\n\nExhibit Opening Reception\n\n\n\n"Two Hundred Years of Progressive Faith" is the title of an exhibit at the St. Lawrence County Center for History and Culture\, marking the bicentennial of the Unitarian Universalist Church. The exhibit opens with a reception on Saturday\, October 11\, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM\, at the Silas Wright House & Museum\, and will run through December 24.\n\n\n\nThe "Two Hundred Years of Progressive Faith" exhibit is part of a year-long celebration by the church of its 200th year. Among the highlights in the exhibit is a 7' x 7' quilt created in 1898. Each square was signed by female members of the church at that time. With the quilt display\, there is a binder of biographical information about many of the signees.\n\n\n\nOther highlights of the exhibit include photos and biographies of past ministers\, photos of the original Union Church and construction of the current church\, details about the church's stained glass windows\, and a map of the locations of the more than 30 Universalist churches that were in St. Lawrence County in the late 1800s.\n\n\n\nHistory Details:\n\nThe First Universalist Society of Canton was established on November 17\, 1825\, and was the forerunner of the current UU Church. The Canton UU Church\, located at 3 1/2 East Main Street\, is the only UU church in the county and draws membership from throughout the county. The Silas Wright House served as the Universalist church parsonage from 1891 to the 1920s and again from 1952 to 1961. Other upcoming events include the statewide meeting of the New York State Convention of Universalists on October 24-25\, a concert of music of UU composers past and present on November 14\, and a bicentennial service on November 16. Additional details about these events can be found on the bicentennial page for the UU Church. For more information\, contact SLCCHC at (315) 386-8133 or the UU Church at (315) 386-2498.
