SUMMARY:Kids Fluorescent Mineral Hunt
DESCRIPTION:KIDS FLUORESCENT MINERAL HUNT\n\nThis family friendly events hosted by the St. Lawrence Rock & Mineral Club will get the kids excited to search for "rocks that glow in the dark"! Just before dusk certain minerals fluoresce (glow) when exposed to ultraviolet ("black") light\, such as the white calcite from the Balmat Mines fluoresces red when viewed under black light. Other minerals glow red too\, or green\, blue\, purple\, or yellow. The St. Lawrence Rock & Mineral Club guarantees that samples of these minerals will be available for kids to find during the mineral hunt!\n\n\n\nAdmission to the hunt is free. Each child (age 12 or under) will be able to borrow a portable black light to use in the search. Kids will be allowed to keep all the minerals that they find. \n\n\n\nThe hunt begins Friday\, the 23rd outside the Pavilion in Canton\, NY at dark (approx. 8:00 pm) and will continue until all children have been able to find some fluorescent minerals. This activity is in conjunction with the St. Lawrence Rock & Mineral Club's 57th Annual Gem & Mineral Show & Swap on August 24th and 25th.
