Presented by by Bryan Thompson, De Kalb Historian Following Massena’s first industrial strike in 1915, ALCOA actively recruited Black workers. The company also encouraged the development of a fledgling Black community in Massena. Who were these Black men? How did they fare in St. Lawrence County – at the national peak of Jim Crow?
