The Potsdam Food Co-op will feature two varieties of farmstead cheeses during their June Cheese of the Month, both from East Hill Creamery located in Perry, NY. Using milk from their grass-fed, pasture-raised cows, East Hill Creamery creates Happy Accident and Silver Lake, both artisan cheeses that are perfect for melting. Happy Accident is a raclette-style cheese with a unique taste, aged 3 months with a creamy cheddar-like texture and fruity finish. Pair with a Cru Beaujolais or oaked chardonnay. Silver Lake, named for a local lake, is a gruyere-style cheese. Cave-aged for 1 year, it has a firm texture and sweet nutty taste with a savory finish. Silver Lake is a 2018 NYS Fair Gold Medal Winner for Farmstead Artisan Hard Cheese. Pair with Cabernet Sauvignon or Sauvignon Blanc. Samples will be available on Friday, June 10th beginning at 12 noon and will continue while supplies last. Find both Happy Accident and Silver Lake in items located in the Grab n’ Go section of the Co-op’s Deli case during the month along with recipes in the blog section of the Co-op’s website. Purchases of Happy Accident and Silver Lake will receive 10% off for the entire month of June. Both of the June cheeses pair well with two beers, now available at the Co-op! Featured are Cherry Pie Sour from Stoneyard Brewing Company in Brockport, NY, described as cherry, vanilla, and crusty notes combined with milk sugar and a sour base beer to make this a slice of cherry pie a la mode in a glass. Pair also with "Perstephanie" Honey Kolsch from Keuka Brewing Company, an award-winning small-batch craft brewery in the heart of New York State's Finger Lakes Region. "Perstephanie" Honey Kolsch, named after the Greek goddess of spring, Persephone, is KBC's spring seasonal brew, the perfect beer to say goodbye to winter and to welcome a new season. This is a German-style Kolsch beer that is brewed with local honey that adds a gentle sweetness. It pours light golden in color while releasing aromas of German hops and a subdued fruitiness from the specialty yeast. Suggestions: Add Happy Accident to a charcuterie board or enjoy it alongside dried fruit, cashews, or fruit preserves. Use it in fondue or potato soup recipes, or serve it raclette-style - melted over potatoes, cold cuts, or vegetables. Enjoy Silver Lake with candied nuts, cherry preserves, or in fondues, baked dishes, soups, casseroles, omelettes, and sandwiches, or grate over salads and pastas. The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm Street and open daily from 8am to 7pm, with curbside service available. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join.
