Description

From Fleece to Yarn Workshop

Saturdays, January 7, 14 & 21, 11am-1pm

Wool is a versatile ecological material for knitting, felting, and weaving, but processing it can be a bit tricky for a beginner. In this workshop, Tilly Lind will show you how to work with wool starting with raw fleece straight off the sheep and ending with handspun yarn ready to be incorporated into your craft projects. We will play with wool from a variety of sheep breeds, including some rare heritage breeds, and we’ll learn how to use their different qualities to create the perfect materials for your projects. If you like starting with natural materials and seeing them through to the finished product, this is a great workshop for you!

January 7: Washing and learning about the properties of wool

January 14: Picking, carding and combing; learning how processing methods affect the final product

January 21: Spinning and felting

$45 registration fee, registration is required. Limit of 12 participants. The $45 fee covers all sessions and materials. Students can bring home the wool they process and are welcome to bring their own wool and tools and/or use those provided.

This workshop is part of an ongoing fiber arts educational series at The TAUNY Center. This workshop will be offered again in spring 2023 - stay tuned for new registration openings.
