A fluorescent mineral hunt for kids will take place on Friday, August 23rd, starting at dusk. This popular event is free to children 12 and under. Wire-wrapping lessons given both Saturday and Sunday by Dave Millis from Pennsylvania are a special treat. He is well known for his gem trees and wire-wrapped jewelry and he’s giving free demonstrations to anyone who wants to learn his craft.

There’s a silent auction on both days of the show. Everyone at the show will have the opportunity to look over, inspect, and bid on mineral specimens, crystals, jewelry, and other items of interest throughout the day.

A guided field trip departs to Power’s farm, a renowned location for black tourmaline and quartz crystals, on Saturday at 9:00 am. The fee for collecting there is $5.00 per day.

No pets inside the pavilion. The Canton Pavilion has an extensive parking area and is located on the banks of the Grasse River with convenient walking trails and benches as well as a playground for children.

Proceeds from this event sponsor mineralogy scholarships at SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University as well as fund “Mineral Kits for Kids” and the “Kids’ Fluorescent Mineral Hunt”.
