Description

Le Siège

Formerly Founder’s Weekend, the Le Siège will bring Reenactors from throughout the U.S. and Canada help celebrate Ogdensburg’s French colonial history, and to live life as people did during the French and Indian War. The weekend seeks to recreate history and bring it to life featuring live re-enactments of land and water battles, and showcasing French, British, native and maritime encampments. This event has been ongoing for a decade and is especially instructive to children who can touch, feel and live history. Participants dressed in clothing from the time period will show how they lived, made sashes, wove baskets, started fires and threw tomahawks.

Throughout the weekend there will be demonstrations and presentations of both civilian and military life. These activities will include:

Saturday, July 20

  • 10:00am: Gates Open
  • 10:00am-4:00pm: Camp Life, Drills, Colonial Trades and Demonstrations, Colonial Lighting and Candle Dipping, 18th Century Medical Display, Blacksmithing, Tomahawk Throwing, Spinning and Weaving Loom Wheels, Small Arm Demonstrations, 18th Century Toys and Games, Balladeer and Musicians; Linda Russell and Mary Durand.
  • 10:00am-4:00pm: Children's Scavenger Hunt
  • 10:30am: Cartridge Rolling
  • 11:00am: Period Fishing
  • 1:00pm: "Synopsis of French and Indian War" with Jim Reagan
  • 1:30pm: Land Battle
  • 2:30pm: 18th Century Balladeer and Musician Linda Russell performs ballads and sentimental melodies of the Victorian Age
  • 3:00pm: Duel and 18th Century medical practices
  • 3:30pm: Children's Muster
  • 4:00pm: Gates Close
  • Food Vendor: Not Like Other Grills
Sunday, July 21
  • 7:30am: Catholic Mass on the site Fort de La Présentation's Chapel at 23 Commerce Street. Bring a lawn chair. Rain location will be held at Notre Dame Church at 125 Ford Street.
  • 10:00am: Gates Open
