Cheese of the Month’s Feature Friday Sampling at the Potsdam Food Co-op on September 9th. The Potsdam Food Co-op's featured Cheese of the Month for September will be offered for sampling during their Feature Friday on September 9th. From 12- 2pm you will have the opportunity to sample Jake's Smoked Farmhouse Gouda. Jake's Smoked Gouda is a salty, creamy cheese made in the Dutch tradition with raw milk from cows on the farm of Jake and Sylvia Stoltzfus in NY State. Because gouda needs to "breathe", Jake's Smoked Gouda is covered with a cream coating rather than a wax seal and is turned daily on pine planks in order to ensure uniform aging. The cheese has a smooth oak smoked flavor and is aged for a minimum of 60 days. Pair with Unibroue Trois Pistoles Belgian-Style Dark Ale, now available at the Co-op! Crafted with four types of malt and exotic spices, this deep brown ale offers notes of black cherry and dark rum. Suggestions: Jake's Smoked Gouda may be served plain or with crackers. Pair it with fruits such as apricots, cherries, sliced peaches, or pears. Add it to mashed potatoes or mac and cheese, fondue, or creamy soup recipes. Grate it over tacos or in a burrito. It is also a delicious topping for a burger or a roasted portobello sandwich. Find Jake's Smoked Farmhouse Gouda in items located in the Grab n’ Go section of the Co-op’s Deli case during the month, along with recipes in the blog section of the Co-op’s website. Purchases of Jake's Smoked Gouda will receive 10% off for the entire month of September. The Potsdam Food Co-op & Carriage House Bakery and Deli is located at 24 Elm Street and open daily from 8am to 7pm, with curbside service available. It is a member-owned cooperative grocery store (although membership is not required) where everyone is welcome to shop and anyone is welcome to join. Committed to the community and local sustainability, its emphasis is on providing natural and organic foods with the practice of buying from local and regional growers and producers. A large selection of specialty items such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and vegan foods are also available.
