TAUNY's Annual Holiday Open House

After a pandemic hiatus, our Holiday Open House is back! This is our favorite day of the year. Festivities will take place 10–4 on December 3. Our annual display of gingerbread houses, Sugar & Spice, will open. We’ll have live music, baking demonstrations, a gingerbread house workshop, an instrument petting zoo, and a family dance. If weather permits, blacksmith and metalworker James Gonzalez will demonstrate in the parking lot behind The TAUNY Center. Full Schedule: 10:00a–4:00p Exhibits: Sugar & Spice, our annual gingerbread competition, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary. This year’s display will open in the main level mini-gallery. Fill out a gingerbread house submission form here: https://forms.gle/6kQb9SD4tAJfhDt3A TAUNY Cooks: Holiday Baking demonstrations will take place from 10am–4pm. 10–11: Enjoy chewy ginger molasses cookies fresh from the oven courtesy of Tilly Lind’s family recipe. 11–12:30: Learn to make artisanal biscotti perfect for holiday gifts and parties. Known for baking with local ingredients, Shannon Walter of Moonrise Bread will teach you how to add your own twist to these delightful Italian cookies. 1–4: Baklava two ways: Rick Geiser will show how he makes traditional baklava from scratch, then Cassie Hellman will demonstrate her shortcut methods for making this decadent honeyed dessert. Music on the Main Level: 1-hour performances will start at 10, including the Madstop Fiddlers at 11. Children’s Activities on the Upper Level: 10:00–12:00 Gingerbread House Workshop 12:30–1:30 Instrument Petting Zoo with members of North Country Folk Orchestra 2:00–3:00 Family Dance with Gretchen Koehler Outside: Metalworker James Gonzalez will demonstrate how to cut out ornaments.
