Description

The Fort La Presentation Association, in conjunction with Forsyth's Rifles Reenactor group, is proud to announce the return of the Battle of Ogdensburg which will be held in Ogdensburg on February 18th and 19th, 2023.

The reenactment transports the public to February 22, 1813, when British and Canadian Forces crossed the ice-covered St. Lawrence River to confront American Forces in the town of Ogdensburg, NY.

The weekend begins on February 18, 2023, with the traditional laying of a wreath on the grave of Sheriff Joseph York, at 10:00 am, the Ogdensburg City Cemetery located on State Highway 812. Sheriff York commanded a cannon crew of fellow townsmen defending the town.

The days battle begins at 1:30 pm with the British and Canadian Forces coming on shore near Riverside Avenue. The battle continues through the town to the corner of Ford and State Street where the battle ends with the capture of Sheriff York and disbanding of the defenders.

Coffee will be served at the Ogdensburg History Museum at 206 Ford Street at 2:30 pm followed by a lecture presented by author John Austin, entitled "Bits and Pieces of The Battle Of Ogdensburg" beginning at 3:00 pm.

On Sunday, February 19, 2023, the Battle continues at 1:30 pm at Van Rensselaer Point (Lighthouse Point) located at 22 Albany Avenue, in Ogdensburg, New York.

This portion of the battle portrays the attack of the fort itself on February 22, 1813 by the British and Canadian forces resulting in the retreating of the American forces to Sackets Harbor, New York.

Re-enactors from across New York and Canada will be in Ogdensburg to commemorate an important date in Ogdensburg history and the role of the north country during the War of 1812.
