Description

Consider This: Trooper of the Plains 1868

Presented by the Frederic Remington Art Museum.

Sponsored by The Enchanted Edible Forest at Cross Island Farms.

Remington's twenty-first bronze subject, The Trooper of the Plains 1868, comes from his desire to record a moment of frontier history. Remington chose to depict this U.S. Cavalry trooper in mid gallop, pistol drawn and horse in mid-stride with nothing but a small sage brush to support them. Remington believed that even if his work was not valued for its aesthetic appeal that certainly it would be appreciated for its historical value. Join us for two sessions in November for guided exploration of this wonderful bronze.

"Consider This" is for all ability levels, and no art background is required. Participants simply need an interest in joining the conversation. A different artwork is featured each month, with two program sessions to choose from.

Museum Experience Manager & Educator Julie Pratt alongside docents Luanne Herzog and Kathy Crowe, will present two 30-minute lunchtime conversations about Remington's early sculptures.

  • Friday, November 8th, at 12pm with Luanne (at the Museum only)

  • Tuesday, November 12th, at 12pm with Julie Pratt and Kathy Crowe (at the Museum and via Zoom)

To learn more and to register, please call 315-393-2425 or email Julie at
jupratt@fredericremington.org.

Each session features focused looking, consideration, conversation, and interpretation of the artwork. Programs are offered at noon, so that even working people can join the conversation during their lunch and bring art into their workday.

Participation via Zoom is free; on-site participation is free with admission to the Museum, thanks to generous support of The Enchanted Edible Forest at Cross Island Farms.

While at the Museum make sure to visit our beautiful exhibit of Sally James Farnham sculptures. Our museum is proud to house the largest collection of Farnham's work in the United States.

Museum hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sunday 12 to 4pm
